CAIRO, June 6 (Aswat Masriya) - Prosecution decided on Monday to detain a university student for four days, pending investigations, on charges of running a Facebook page that leaks high school exam questions.

The general secondary certificate, Thanaweya Amma, is held in the final year of Egypt's secondary education stage before students are set to enter university.

A judicial source told Aswat Masriya that the prosecution charged the student with publishing the Thanaweya Amma exam questions and answers, and aiding students in cheating. The Facebook page the student ran was called "Chao Ming."

Prosecution arrested and detained the student on Sunday pending investigations, stating that security tracked the student's phone identification number and matched them with the numbers for the page "Chao Ming."

Mohamed Wissam, the defendant's brother, told Aswat Masriya that according to investigations his brother was arrested at six am, while the exams were leaked at nine am.  

Another judicial source told Aswat Masriya that Prosecution also arrested 12 education ministry officials for 15 days pending investigations, also against the backdrop of the leaking of the Thanaweya Amma exam.

The source added that some of the officials ordered to be detained are members of committee responsible for writing down the exams and others are responsible for printing of the exam papers.

The officials are charged with the "willful damage of the interests of their employers and leaking exams."

The ministry of education cancelled on Sunday the religion exam for Thanaweya Amma after it was leaked shortly before it was set to take place.

The exam was accordingly postponed to June 29.

Another judicial source told Aswat Masriya that the officials denied that accusations leveled against them and said that the students are responsible for leaking the exam.
