CAIRO, Apr 3 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt hopes that the framework accord recently reached over Iran's nuclear programme would be "a first step toward achieving security in the region," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement late Friday.

"Egypt is yet to check all the details of the framework accord reached," the Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement, adding that Egypt is waiting on detailed information on the accord.

Iran struck a deal with the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China and Germany early Friday which would see the Middle Eastern country reduce the uranium enrichment capacity of its nuclear programme in exchange for easing sanctions imposed on it.

The deal was agreed on in Switzerland after eight days of negotiations. The parties are expected to draft a comprehensive nuclear accord by June 30.

Spokesman Badr Abdelatty said in the statement that Egypt hopes that by the aforementioned deadline, the accord would be reached in a manner which would "contribute to achieving stability in the Middle East region and prevent being drawn into an endless arms race," the statement read.

Egypt has long been calling for creating a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East.
