CAIRO, Apr 6 (Aswat Masriya) - The April 6 youth movement and the April 6 democratic front political groups resorted to holding a conference on Monday in the desert after the event was refused by "all" potential venues, a leading member of one group said.
The press conference held in the desert of Giza's 6 October neighbourhood is a message to the current regime that "no one can stop" the voice of the young, democratic front group leader Sherif el-Roubi said.
He called for the release of revolutionary youth, specifically the 22 April 6 members detained on "fabricated charges", adding that the group's youth cannot be silenced about violations.
Roubi also called for the cancellation of Egypt's protest law.
Today marks the 7th anniversary of workers' strikes in the industrial city of Mahalla in the Nile Delta, in what was unprecedented political action at the time.
An initiative called the April 6 youth movement started out as a Facebook campaign calling for demonstrations in solidarity with the Mahalla workers. After a division, there are now two main groups with the namesake, the youth movement and the democratic front.
