CAIRO, Apr 20 (Aswat Masriya) - An Egyptian urgent matters court said on Monday it lacks jurisdiction to rule on listing the April 6 Youth Movement as a "terrorist" organisation.

The plaintiffs were demanding adding the group to a list of "terrorist groups", in implementation of an anti-terrorism legislation issued in February to prepare a "list of terrorist bodies" and a "list of terrorists", based on decisions by a special criminal judicial circuit at the Cairo Court of Appeals.

The head of Monday's session said only the Cairo Court of Appeals can rule on the case.

The Cairo Court of Urgent Matters banned the April 6 movement in 2014, ordering the confiscation of its headquarters.

The movement's co-founders, Ahmed Maher and Mohamed Adel, are currently serving a three-year prison sentence. They were sentenced in December 2013 for violating the protest law.

Founded in 2008, April 6 is seen as one of the movements which sparked a popular uprising in 2011 which led to the overthrow of former president Hosni Mubarak.
