CAIRO, Oct. 25 (Aswat Masriya) – The Ministry of Social Solidarity will disburse EGP 10,000 to the families of each of the five people who were electrocuted in Alexandria on Sunday in the aftermath of heavy rainfall.

When a power cable from the Moharam Bek tram station came loose and fell in a pool of rain water, three people were electrocuted to death: two children and a man, said the Health Ministry, without offering any more information about him.

In a separate incident a 25-year-old man was also electrocuted to death, after falling into a hole that contained a power cord.

The fifth victim was a sea captain who was trapped when his car sank in a pool of water, drowning him.

Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali joined Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and Local Development Minister Ahmed Zaki Badr in an emergency visit to Alexandria to inspect the situation and assess the damage.

She tasked the head of the social solidarity directorate in Alexandria to attend to the needs of all those harmed by the heavy rain, reported state-run MENA News Agency.

Heavy rainfall disrupted power supply across the province of Aswan and caused traffic congestion. Navigation in sea ports in Kafr el-Sheikh, Rashid and Ain Sokhna were also obstructed because of the bad weather conditions.

Egypt's Meteorological Authority expected rain to continue across "most of the country," with a thunderstorm expected in Sinai, where, the authority said, heavy showers may cause flooding which will also affect the Red Sea Hills in the eastern desert and the south of the country.

The wet weather is forecast to continue well into the next two days during which both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea will be turbulent, the authority said.

The weather is expected to start improving on Wednesday.
