A limited number of fans will be allowed to attend the second half of the Egyptian Premier League after three years of absence, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced Sunday.

The EFA stated they have reached an agreement with the security authorities to allow 10,000 fans at matches held at Cairo stadium, Air Defence stadium, Arab Contractors stadium and Borg El-Arab stadium. Only 5,000 will be allowed at matches held in other arenas.

"Sports Minister Khaled Abdel-Aziz met Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim with the attendance of EFA chairman Gamal Allam, EFA board members and police leaders," the association stated on their official website Sunday about the meeting held in the Interior Ministry headquarters in Cairo.

"The board will be committed to new regulations that guarantee crowd discipline before, during and after the games," EFA added.

Egypt has been holding football matches behind closed doors since February 2012, when 72 Ahly fans died in Port Said stadium after being attacked by rival fans of hosts Masry.

Minimum fan attendance was occasionally allowed in the continental competitions and the league was cancelled twice in 2012 and 2013, causing trouble for players and clubs due to lack of playing and fan interest.
