Egypt's army Chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held a meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns on Sunday to discuss the recent developments in the country.
They exchanged views on the current political situation in Egypt and its impact on the democratisation process.
Both officials emphasized on the need to renounce violence and achieve national reconciliation that includes all political factions in light of the road map laid out by the army for the transitional phase.
The meeting was attended by U.S. Ambassador in Cairo Anne Patterson and a number of senior army commanders.
