CAIRO, Nov. 5 (Aswat Masriya) – In the third court hearing for this case, the Cairo Cassation Court postponed the retrial of ousted President Hosni Mubarak Thursday to Jan. 11, 2016 because the defendent was not present in court.

Mubarak is being tried for his complicity in killing protesters during the January 25, 2011 uprising.

A court ruling in November 2014 had acquitted Mubarak, his Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and four of his aides on charges of inciting and aiding the killing of protesters.

The verdict was appealed in December, then the Court of Cassation ordered a retrial of Mubarak in June.

This trial is the final stage of litigation Mubarak will face in this case. 

In court Thursday, Mubarak’s lawyer Farid al-Deeb called for his acquittal.

He argued that since Adly and his aides were acquitted of all charges of killing protesters, the same should apply to Mubarak.

Mubarak is currently hospitalized a Maadi military hospital.
