Activists from the “Arab Youth Climate Movement” marched across Cairo and other cities of the Middle East on Saturday to urge their governments to take action against climate change.

“Arabs, take the lead!” read a banner held by an activist in Cairo during a march from Kasr al-Nile to the Arab League headquarters.

In coordination with their counterparts in other Arab countries, activists urged Arab leaders in particular the Qatari government, to reach environmental-friendly resolutions at the United Nations Conference scheduled for November 26.

"This is a historic opportunity on the political and media levels for Arab countries which are stereotyped as reluctant when it comes to environment-related issues and are instead only concerned with their oil reserves and revenues”, the movement said in a press statement.

Marches took place in Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Libya, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Iraq.
