Leading figure of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and Deputy to its Supreme Guide, Khairat El-Shater, was arrested on Friday night on charges of inciting violence, reported the state news agency.

Shater was arrested at his apartment in Cairo's Nasr city. He was disposed in an extension to Torah Prison, in one of its most secured prisons and away from the symbols of the former regime of Hosni Mubarak.

Shater, a wealthy businessman, was the Brotherhood's initial presidential candidate but he was disqualified from the elections due to past criminal conviction.

He was the latest of the Brotherhood leaders to be arrested since the overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi.
