CAIRO, Oct 29 (Aswat Masriya) – A military tribunal sentenced on Wednesday a former official at Egypt's General Intelligence Services to a year in prison for making statements to the press that affect national security.
Tharwat Gouda, former deputy head of the General Intelligence Services, was referred to military investigation for "disclosing military secrets," a military source who preferred to remain anonymous told Aswat Masriya.
Gouda told private-owned daily al-Watan last September that during the tenure of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi, the intelligence did not provide the president with "a single piece of correct information," due to their knowledge of his "treason".
Mursi, leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood, was ousted by the military on July 3, 2013, following mass protests against his rule.
