CAIRO, May 15 (Aswat Masriya) - Egyptian private satellite channel ONTV will not broadcast the upcoming episode of acclaimed presenter Reem Maguid's show, the channel's head said on Friday.
Magud's new show, which tackles women's issues, piloted on May 2, bringing Maguid back on screen after an almost two-year long hiatus. It was scheduled to continue every Saturday yet only two of its episodes have thus far been aired.
Channel head Albert Shafik told Aswat Masriya that the channel is yet to take a final decision regarding the suspension of the show.
"There is a 99 percent chance that the show has been taken off air," Shafiq nevertheless said. He responded with, "no comment" when asked about the reason for suspending the show.
The show will continue to air on the German Deutsche Welle's Arabic channel.
Maguid gained prominence following the 2011 popular uprising which toppled the regime of former president Hosni Mubarak. Her show, 'Baladna Bel Masry', was broadcast on weekdays on ONTV and was popular for being a strong opponent of the successive regimes which ruled the country since Mubarak's overthrow.
Maguid refused to renew her contract in 2013, following the military ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi, which was prompted by mass protests against his rule.
