The parliament bureau decided on Sunday to refer Member of Parliament (MP) Ziad Al-Alemi to the Ethics Committee for allegedly insulting Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, head of the ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces.

The leftist MP on the other hand asked for the case to be transferred to the Arabic Language Academy.

Controversy erupted when Al-Alemi allegedly insulted Tantawi and the Islamist leader, Mohamed Hassan, then failed to issue an official apology to the de facto leader.
