21 killed in two accidents in Egypt

CAIRO, Jun 14 (Aswat Masriya) - Twenty-one people were killed and 19 injured in two car crashes on  Sunday  in  Egypt, which  has  one  of  the  highest  worldwide casualties caused by car accidents.

In the northern Beheira governorate, 10 people were killed and 8 injured when a pick-up truck carrying construction material collided with a van, state news agency MENA reported.

Eight were left with fractures and wounds and were taken to hospital.

In an earlier accident, 11 were killed and 11 injured on the ring road of the eastern city of Hurghada on the Red Sea coast.    

Road accidents are a daily occurrence in Egypt, which is one of the 10 low and middle income countries targeted by of Bloomberg's Global Road Safety Program. Combined, the 10 countries account for half of global deaths caused by car accidents.
