General Prosecutor orders media gag in the State Council bribery case

CAIRO, Jan 2 (Aswat Masriya) - General Prosecutor Nabil Sadek ordered media gag in the bribery case which involves a number of State Council officials.

Sadek said in an official statement, the gag includes all forms of media outlets until the investigations end tomorrow. However, the gag does not include official statements issued by the prosecutor's media office, the statement read.

 

Earlier on Monday, former State Council secretary general and one of the defendants in the case Wael Shalaby committed suicide in custody. He was arrested for interrogation by the Supreme State Security Prosecution over the bribery case on Sunday and received four days of detention.

Shalaby submitted his resignation few days after another administrative employee has been accused of bribery last week.

Some EGP 24 million and USD 4 million were found in the administrative's home, in addition to 1 million Saudi Riyals, and other belongings of gold and gifts.
