CAIRO, 11 Nov (Aswat Masriya) - Fourty-five people were arrested on Friday during protests across Egypt's governorates, a security official told Aswat Masriya on condition of anonymity.

Protests took place in cities of Giza, Alexandria, Beheira, Suez, and Menufiya. According to the source, the protesters chanted against the military and the recent price hikes.

Despite calls for mass protests on November 11, streets in Cairo and around other cities remained calm, with the number of protesters not exceeding 100 people.

An group called "Underprivileged Movement" called for protests against unprecedented rise in prices.

On Thursday, the Muslim Brotherhood echoed the calls for protest, calling on its supporters to rise against the recent price hikes.

Last Thursday, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced free flotation for the Egyptian pound according to supply and demand. The move was followed by a hike in energy prices.

In a press conference last week, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail also announced an expected hike in several goods and services.
