CAIRO, Sept 2 (Aswat Masriya) - President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Friday following his arrival in New Delhi that Egypt and India must work towards greater cooperation on regional challenges topped by terrorism.

Sis is currently on a three-day visit to India at the invitation of President Pranab Mukherjee, as he is scheduled to meet a number of Indian top officials to discuss means of cooperation between both countries.

The president’s comments came during a press conference following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi were they discussed bilateral relations and regional challenges.

“The current cooperation between India and Egypt is an evidence of the size of opportunities available for further cooperation in the future,” Sisi said during the press conference.

The Egyptian president said he gave his instructions to the government in Cairo in order to develop a comprehensive plan to develop economic cooperation between both countries. He also said he is looking towards enhancing trade with India as well as cooperation on development and security levels. 

Sis, who visits India for the second time in less than a year, is expected to sign a number of agreements on bilateral and trade cooperation during his visit.

“Egypt is taking steady steps towards a better future for its people, and is looking forward to further cooperation with India in various fields,” Sisi added.

Sisi, who visited the tomb of Mahatma Ghandi following his arrival in New Delha, is scheduled to meet India’s President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari later on Friday.

This marks Sisi’s second visit to India as he visited New Delhi in October 2015 to attend the third India Africa Forum Summit, where representatives of 40 African countries discussed possibilities of economic cooperation.
