CAIRO, Aug 12 (Aswat Masriya) – Twenty-three Egyptians, who were reportedly kidnapped in Libya last week, were released and arrived in Egypt through Salloum border crossing, state’s TV reported on Friday.

The Libyan armed forces intervened to free the Egyptians as instructed by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, according to state's TV.

The Egyptians were reportedly kidnapped on their way to Egypt-Libya border when they were intercepted by three cars carrying militants in the area of Brega.

Violence has intensified in Libya particularly since 2014, when conflicting parties sought to take control of the country.

Egyptians residing in Libya have been caught up in the country’s internal conflict which proliferated after the fall of former Libyan President Muammar al-Gaddafi in 2011.

Egypt has repeatedly warned against travel to Libyan territories and called for Egyptians living in Libya to exercise extreme caution.
