CAIRO, Aug 8 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt's foreign minister spoke with the US Secretary of State about regional developments in a phone call on Monday, according to an Egyptian foreign ministry statement.

The conversation between Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and US Secretary of State John Kerry focused on discussing the efforts exerted to support the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

They also discussed the measures taken to combat terrorism, as well as the latest developments regarding the Syrian crisis and the situation in Libya.

According to the ministry, the discussion reflected mutual keenness to bolster bilateral relations and to support Egypt in the face of existing economic challenges.

During Shoukry’s visit to Israel in July, the foreign minister said that a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict "is not far-fetched", confirming Egypt’s commitment to supporting Israeli-Palestinian peace.

He called for the renewal of peace negotiations that collapsed in April 2014, causing deterioration in the humanitarian and economic situation.

In May, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi promised Israel warmer ties if it accepted efforts to resume peace talks with the Palestinians, and urged Israeli leaders not to waste an opportunity to bring security and hope to a troubled region.
