CAIRO, Aug 2 (Aswat Masriya) - Two conscripts were injured Tuesday morning in a drive-by shooting at a police vehicle on the ring road in Giza, a source within Giza security directorate said.

Unidentified assailants randomly opened fire on a police vehicle, injuring two of the conscripts who were inside the vehicle, the security source told Aswat Masriya.

The injured were transferred to hospital for treatment, while the assailants are still at large.

The Cairo ring road encircles large parts of the governorates of Cairo and Giza.

Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since the military ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule. 

While the deadliest attacks take place in restive Sinai peninsula, militants have targeted security forces and planted bombs in Cairo and other cities.

In July 2015, a car bomb attack at the Italian consulate in central Cairo killed one civilian and injured ten others. 

A month earlier, the country's top public prosecutor was assassinated in a car bomb attack on his convoy as he was leaving his home in northeast Cairo. He was the highest-ranking state official to be targeted in the recent wave of violence.

According to separate statements by the armed forces over the past year alone, hundreds of suspected militants have been killed and hundreds more arrested in multiple security campaigns launched by the army.
