CAIRO, Jul 24 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt's foreign ministry strongly condemned on Sunday an attack in Afghan capital, Kabul, which claimed the lives of dozens and wounded hundreds of people.
Suicide bombers attacked on Saturday a demonstration organised by members of Hazara, a Shiite minority group in Afghanistan. The attack reportedly killed at least 80 people and wounded 230 others.
The demonstration was against the route of a planned multi-million-dollar power line, Reuters reported.
According to Reuters, Islamic State fighters claimed responsibility for the attack which is considered to be among the worst in Afghanistan since the fall of the former Taliban regime in 2001.
Egypt’s foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid stressed Egypt’s stance in solidarity with Afghanistan and urged the international community to take action against the growth of “terrorist organisations” and “destructive ideologies”.
The attack was condemned by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Ban described the attack in a statement on Saturday as a “despicable crime” against Afghan citizens who were “peacefully exercising their fundamental human rights”.
