CAIRO, Jul 15 (Aswat Masriya) - A judicial source in Nasr City said on Friday that prosecution has started investigating an incident of police assault on a member of parliament in the Nasr City police station.
The official told Aswat Masriya that "preliminary investigations showed that the police officer assaulted and injured the parliament member Zainab Salem while she was in the police station."
"The parliamentarian went to the station to ask that one of her relatives be released. While she was in the police station, a fight took place between her and the policeman that assaulted her verbally and then injured her mildly on her face," the official said.
The prosecution has listened to the testimony of the parliamentarian as well as the police officers who witnessed the incident.
A security source in the Cairo security directorate said that "the parliamentarian and the officer exchanged accusations and bickering." The clash took place as the parliamentarian attempted to get her nephew released from police custody.
The interior ministry has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
