CAIRO, Jun 27 (Aswat Masriya) - The damaged memory chips from the doomed EgyptAir flight’s black boxes have been flown to France on Monday where they will be repaired, sources with the Egyptian investigation committee said.

The recently recovered black boxes of the EgyptAir MS 804 flight were found in the Mediterranean Sea but were damaged and had to be transferred to France for repair and removal of the salt accumulations on them.

After they are repaired, the black boxes will be returned to Cairo where data analysis to be conducted at the labs of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the ministry said in a statement last week.   

The passenger flight crashed into the Mediterranean about 280 km off the Egyptian seacoast en route from Paris to Cairo. It was carrying 66 people.

The black boxes, the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the Flight Data Recorder, which were retrieved earlier in June, are crucial for piecing together the causes of the crash, which still remain unknown more than a month after the jet plunged into the Mediterranean.

Following the crash, Egypt contracted the Mauritius-based company "Deep Ocean Search", which specializes in marine wreckage searches, to help in the search and in the retrieval of the boxes and the plane's debris.

The ship that retrieved the two black boxes, which is owned by "Deep Ocean Search", is still searching for more of the plane's debris and locating victims' remains at sea.
