CAIRO, May 8 (Aswat Masriya) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo on Sunday for a two-day visit during which he will meet with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to discuss developments in the Palestinian territories.
According to Egypt's state-run MENA news agency, the meeting will tackle efforts to revive the peace process in light of the continued Israeli aggression against Palestinians.
Earlier in May, Egypt mediated a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinians after a few days of cross-border violence between the Palestinian movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza strip, and Israel.
Gaza borders Egypt and Israel.
In 2014, Egypt brokered an open-ended ceasefire after a 50-day Israeli attack on the Gaza strip during the summer of 2014 which left at least 2,000 Palestinians dead, 10,000 injured as well as extensive damage of Gaza’s infrastructure.
During his visit to Egypt, the Palestinian president is set to meet with the Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Araby and Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri.
