CAIRO, Jan. 24 (Aswat Masriya) – Cairo’s Sadat metro station will be closed on Monday, reported state-run MENA Sunday citing the spokesman of the company running the metro.

Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation Spokesman Ahmed Abdel Hadi said the closure is based on the request of security authorities.

The decision comes less than one day ahead of the fifth anniversary of 2011 Uprising.

The Sadat station is situated beneath the iconic Tahrir Square, which lies in the heart of Cairo where Egyptians took to the streets five years ago to topple then-president Hosni Mubarak who ruled the country for around 30 years.

It is one of the largest metro stations in the capital.

The station saw a nearly two year closure after the dispersal of two encampments, organised to support former president Mohamed Mursi, in August, 2013. The forced dispersal caused nationwide violence, which lasted for days and prompted authorities to declare a state of emergency and a curfew.

The station was temporarily closed for a few days amid security tension caused by the assassination of the state's top prosecutor in an attack on his motorcade last June 2015.
