CAIRO, Feb 13 (Aswat Masriya) - One prisoner was killed and 17 others injured in an attempted prison break from a Giza police station on Saturday, the Egyptian interior ministry said.
In a statement published on its Facebook page, the ministry said a fight broke out between some prisoners inside a prison cell in Hawamdya police station.
A number of prisoners took advantage of the fight and attempted to escape by breaking the cell's door and started to make their way to the main entrance.
Police forces tried to stop them by firing tear gas to prevent them from escaping. In the process, 17 people experienced suffocation and a prisoner died in hospital after sustaining "bruises" and "fatigue".
