Two Egyptian policemen killed in Arish bombing - interior ministry

An Egyptian soldier stands guard at a checkpoint in Rafah city on the Egyptian border, August 6, 2012.

CAIRO, Mar 7 (Aswat Masriya) - A blast in North Sinai's al-Arish city left two policeman killed and three injured on Monday, the interior ministry said in a statement.

An explosive device went off as an armoured vehicle passed by, the ministry said on Facebook. This attack comes one day after two conscripts were killed and another was injured when an explosive device went off as a police vehicle passed by in Sheikh Zuweid, also in North Sinai, according to a security source.

Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since the military ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule.

North Sinai is at the epicenter of insurgency as most attacks take place there, targeting security forces.

According to separate statements by the armed forces, Egyptian security forces have killed hundreds of militants in Sinai over the past two years.
