CAIRO, Mar 5 (Aswat Masriya) -A Cairo court upheld on Saturday a decision to release Mohamed Rabie Al-Zawahri who faces charges of creating a "terrorist cell", rejecting an appeal by prosecutors.
Zawahri, the brother of al Qaeda leader Ayman Zawahri, was arrested on Aug. 17, 2013, about six weeks after former president Mohamed Mursi's military ouster following mass protests against his rule. He has since faced multiple charges related to terrorism.
A court had ordered his release last month due to the deterioration of his health, but placed him under house arrest on condition of appearing in court every 45 days until his trial is over.
In October, an Egyptian criminal court cleared him from charges in the case dubbed by the media as the "Zawahri cell" case, but prosecutors were quick to file a new case against him for forming a terrorist group called "Alta'efa AlMansoura" (The Victorious Sect).
