Brotherhood supporters to stand trial over Nasr City clashes

CAIRO, Feb 18 (Aswat Masriya) An Egyptian prosecutor referred 42 Muslim Brotherhood supporters to criminal court on Tuesday over confrontations that happened in Nasr City on the third anniversary of the January 25 uprising.

The prosecutor accused the 42 suspects of carrying arms and staging a demonstration without a permit from the authorities.

They were also accused of “belonging to an armed terrorist group whose aim is to threaten national peace and order, to resist the authorities and attack them and vandalize public property and disturb traffic."

Egypt's interim government declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization in December even though the group continues to deny the use of violence.

Confrontations between supporters and opponents of the Brotherhood and security forces had erupted in Nasr City last month where the authorities fired teargas to disperse the protesters, arresting 42 of them.
