Polls open for third day in Egypt's presidential election
By:

CAIRO, May 28 (Aswat Masriya) Egyptians continued on Wednesday casting their votes in the country's second presidential election since the 2011 uprising.

Egypt extended the originally two-day election late on Tuesday, hours after announcing that a 500-pound fine will be applied on non-voters in accordance with the law.

Tuesday was also declared a holiday in hopes to increase the reportedly low turnout.

The two candidates competing in the presidential race, former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi, have criticized the extension of the vote.

Their campaigns filed official complaints to the Presidential Elections Commission supervising the vote late on Tuesday.
