Egypt’s army and police forces imposed a temporary curfew that would last for all-day long in Minya’s village of Delga early on Monday after it entered it with air cover.

The Egyptian government has imposed a nationwide curfew from six a.m. to eleven p.m. except on Fridays the curfew ends at seven p.m. due to the political unrest that swapped the country.

The Upper Egypt village has seen an outbreak of sectarian violence since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi two month ago following mass protests against his rule. 

Delga was controlled by Islamists who "wanted to enforce extra taxes on Christians as non-Muslim citizens (Jiziya)," according to the MidEast Christian News website.

The security forces arrested dozens of people who were allegedly involved in storming and burning homes of Coptic Christians, a monastery, a Christian archaeological site and a police station, security sources said.

The violence has escalated furthermore in the aftermath of the 14 August forced dispersal of two large Pro-Mursi protest camps in Cairo as many churches, mounting to at least 40, and private properties of Christian Copts were torched and looted, especially in Upper Egypt.
