Nobel Laureate and prominent opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei warned against the repercussions of continued violence in Syria on the Arab region, saying that peaceful settlement is the only solution for this crisis.
The former head of the IAEA called for a summit between the Syrian regime and its opposition to resolve the conflict.
ElBaradei criticised the Arabs' stance, saying it adds to "our tragic situation."
"Gruesome slaughterhouse in Syria is becoming a spectator sport! Yet again a dysfunctional regional and global security system," he posted on his Twitter account.
The two-year-old conflict in Syria has left at least 70,000 dead and hundreds of thousands of refugees.
