Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Egyptian ambassador in Addis Ababa to inquire about the threats proposed by politicians who had attended President Mohamed Mursi’s meetings with political powers.
Egyptian Ambassador to Ethiopia Mohamed Idris met with a number of Ethiopian foreign ministry officials on Wednesday to discuss developments on the Renaissance dam Ethiopia has begun building, the state-owned news agency MENA reported.
President Mohamed Mursi had invited several party heads and political powers to attend a national dialogue session on the Ethiopian dam issue on 3 June.
Several attendees spoke with liberty to the extent that they urged the president to threaten Ethiopia with using military force. The attendees later said they were surprised the session had been aired live.
Ethiopian officials asked for formal, swift clarifications from the Egyptian government on the “threats” that these politicians made.
Ethiopia expressed its shock towards what went on during Mursi’s meeting with national powers.
