Mohamed Badran, head of Banha University Student Union, won the presidency of the Egyptian Student Union on Wednesday, the Freedom and Justice Party online portal reported online.

Badran won with 24 votes while his rival Mostafa Mounir, the candidate of the Muslim Brotherhood students, got 22 votes.

Ahmed al-Baqri, a Muslim Brotherhood student candidate, was elected as vice president of the union with 24 votes, the Association of Freedom of Thought and Expression reported.

The Minister of High Education invites presidents and vice presidents of all Egyptian universities (21 universities excluding Port Said University at which there was no poll) to a meeting where the union's president, vice president and board are elected.

Representatives of private universities did not participate in the poll and said earlier that they are not happy with the percentage of their representation in the union.
