CAIRO, Nov 11 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt's Judges' Club announced on Monday night its official membership in the International Association of Judges (IAJ) after 60 member-states voted in favour of the membership.

The Judges' Club, the official union of judges in Egypt, said in a press statement that the voting session was attended by 88 member-states in the association. Twenty-eight member-states voted against Egypt's membership.

"In this event, we congratulate the great people of Egypt and its dignified judges," said Mohamed Abdel Hady, the club's media officer, in the statement.

Founded in the Austrian city of Salzburg in 1953, the IAJ describes itself as a "professional, non-political, international organisation" which brings together national associations of judges rather than individual judges. Judges' associations joining the IAJ need to be approved by the association's Central Council.

In 2013, the IAJ included 81 national associations representing countries from all over the world. Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia are among the association's member-states.
