Sabbahi, Abul-Fotouh campaigns strategise on runoff plans

Egyptian presidential candidates Hamdeen Sabbahi and Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh met in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss results of the first round of Egypt's presidential elections, which saw the two candidates come in at third and fourth place respectively.

According to sources close to both campaigns, Abul-Fotouh and Sabbahi have both agreed not to support either of the presidential finalists – Mohamed Mursi and Ahmed Shafiq – in a runoff vote slated for 16 and 17 June.

The meeting between the two eliminated presidential hopefuls took place after both men were blamed by supporters for splitting the pro-revolution vote. Sabbahi won 4,739,983 votes in last week's poll, while Abul-Fotouh won 3,936,264.

On the same day as the meeting, both men's campaigns announced plans to unify their activities and cooperate to expose alleged electoral violations.
