CAIRO, July 12 (Aswat Masriya) Egypt's Press Syndicate has announced its objection to what it described as any kind of state interference in new press and media laws in accordance with the constitution.
The syndicate said in a statement late on Thursday that Article 72 stipulates press and media independence while Article 77 stipulates that the syndicate must be asked on whatever constitutional amendments that relate to its affairs.
The syndicate said that the constitution does not allow the executive authority to interfere in drafting laws related to the media and that such procedures should not be taken before a new parliament, legislature, is elected.
The syndicate recommended that a general committee be formed to review the three draft laws which regulate press and media affairs in Egypt.
