By:

Calm was restored to Tanta city in Gharbiya province following clashes that left one dead and 26 injured, Gharbiya's head of security said.

Security forces intervened to break up scuffles between residents of al-Bahr Street in Tanta and Muslim Brotherhood supporters, he told CBC channel.

Supporters of the Brotherhood clashed with the residents using firearms after the former staged a march against top army commander Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the police.

Security forces tear-gassed the protesters in Saeed and Moheb streets to disperse them.

The Armed Forces deployed tanks at Moheb Street to close it and placed metal barriers on several main streets to prevent protesters from accessing the province's headquarters.
