A youth group that goes by the name “Tamarod” (Rebel) has announced that it will not be joining Today’s commemoration of the Mohamed Mahmoud events where over 40 people were killed in 2011.
Tamarod added in a statement on Tuesday that after the events of Monday evening, it learnt that “members of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood will go to Tahrir Square armed, pretending to be revolutionaries, and will drag young protesters into violence and confrontations to have people fall victim in order to market their blood.”
Hundreds of protesters rallied in Tahrir late on Monday and destroyed a cornerstone the state had built to commemorate the "martyrs".
The statement warned Egyptians to not give "the terrorist Brotherhood that betrayed the revolution" the chance to trap the revolution for the second time in battles to benefit itself "for the forces of darkness and terrorism."
It asked all Egyptians to commit themselves to self-restraint and peaceful conduct to continue what they started.
