A number of former employees of the state-run Al-Ahram institution have been banned from travelling by a judge investigating charges of corruption in the organisation.

They include Mubarak-era chief editors of Al-Ahram daily Ibrahim Nafei and Abdel-Moneim El-Said, Nafei's sons Ahmed Nafei and Omar Nafei, former chairman of Al-Ahram Morsi Atallah, former Al-Ahram advertising agency head Hassan Hamdi, former Al-Ahram director of publications Mohamed Mohamadein, and Hodda Awadallah, a former senior figure at Al-Ahram advertising agency.

Hamdi, who is also Al-Ahly football club's president, was released on a LE2 million bail in 2012 after being questioned by Egypt's Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) on charges of illegally accumulating wealth.

Hamdi has failed to explain how he had accumulated around LE500 million during his time as head of Al-Ahram's advertising agency.

The IGA had also accused Nafei, his wife and two sons of corruption. Both Nafei and Hamdi as well as Abdel-Moneim El-Said and Morsi Atallah were previously banned from travel for investigations of financial corruption.

El-Said is currently chairman of private daily Al-Masry Al-Youm.
