CAIRO, Nov 30 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi agreed with Jordan's King Abdullah II on the importance of "correcting the prevalent image of Islam and showing its true tolerant nature which renounces violence and extremism."

The heads of states met at the presidential palace in Cairo on Sunday during a short visit for King Abdullah to Egypt.

Sisi and King Abdullah discussed possible means of "fighting terrorism" during their meeting, said Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef in a statement. They stressed the importance of uniting the efforts of Arab and Islamic countries to achieve this goal.

The heads of states also reiterated the importance of al-Azhar as a moderate Islamic institution capable of "correcting misconceptions about Islam and combating extremist and destructive thought," Youssef said.

Sisi and King Abdullah stressed the sustainability of their countries' bilateral ties, reported Jordanian state-run news agency Petra. King Abdullah expressed his keenness on continuously coordinating with Egypt regarding different issues which concern both parties, in a manner which serves the Arabs' interests.

King Abdullah landed back in Amman on Sunday evening after his short visit to Cairo.
