Over 10 Egyptian newspapers went on strike on Tuesday in protest against a presidential decree and a draft constitution written by an Islamist-dominated assembly.
Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi issued a constitutional decree on November 22 expanding his powers while a constituent assembly finished drafting a new charter on Friday allowing it to be put to a referendum on December 15.
The decree and the charter have been widely denounced by opposition forces, including leftist, socialist and liberal parties and prominent opposition figures.
The newspapers include: Al-Masry Al-Youm, Al-Watan, Al-Tahrir, Al-Wafd, Al-Youm 7, Al-Dostour, Al-Shorouk, Al-Sabah, Al-Ahaly, Al-Ahrar, Al-Fagr and Al-Osbooa.
The TV channels that will go on strike on Wednesday are: ONTV channels, CBC and Modern channels, Al-Hayat Channels and Dream TV channels.
Opposition forces have organized a "Last Warning" march to Egypt's presidential palace on Tuesday against the decree and draft constitution.
