CAIRO, Aug 28 (Aswat Masriya) - A policeman was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Upper Egyptian city of Sohag on Friday, reported the state news agency MENA.

The Sohag Security Directorate received a notice about finding the body of a policeman with gunshot wounds on a road outside a Sohag village, reported MENA.

The slain policeman received three gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He was shot on his way back from work, reported MENA.

Bombings and shootings targeting security personnel have surged since the military ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Mursi, following mass protests against his rule.
